Tony C: Hawaiian Passion

Originally released in 1985, nearly 20 years later, the passion is back and sweeter than ever with the addition of six new tracks (translations and the full set of lyrics are available at the Mountain Apple website). Few artists are afforded the opportunity to return to the studio with the original musicians to re-experience the magic that made it the definitive work of Tony's career in the mid-80s.

His amazing falsetto work from track to track show Tony's evolution and ability to be many things all at the same time from traditional Hawaiian vocalist to comtemporary artist.

The song choices are a blend of traditional standards and his own talents as a composer. On the tracks "Lehua Ma'ema'e" and "Ka Lei Waimaka" Tony teams up with Kihei deSilva to create a poetic tapestry of melody. My favorite track on this is Tony's version of the Hawaiian Jazz standard "Blue Lei" which features Aunty Leila Hohu Kiaha on the piano. His soulful crooning and the crisp melody are easy for the listener to embrace. Bonus track "Keahi" has the feeling of a dramatic broadway love tune and features the talents of Gabe Baltazar on saxophone.

If by some chance you missed this album the first time around, now's your opportunity to bring the passion home.
